Thomasville, North Carolina

A mother and a couple have been indicted by a grand jury after allegedly swapping a baby for a car.

Police in Thomasville said detectives began an investigation July 23, after a 2 year old girl arrived at Wake Forest Baptist Health High Point Medical Center with bruises. Tina Chavis, 47, brought the child to the hospital. Hospital staff alerted police and Child Protective Services. Police said Chavis initially claimed to be the the child’s mother before stating that she adopted the child, but couldn’t produce any documentation.

The child was later placed in the care of a family member. Her current condition and the extent of her injuries are unknown.

Police said they later learned the child’s biological mother, Alice Todd 45, gave the child to Chavis and her husband Vicencio Romero, 53, in exchange for a 1993 Plymouth Laser at some point in 2018.

All 3 suspects are presented before a grand jury where a true Bill of indictments was returned on Chavis, Romero and Todd for the unlawful sale, surrender or purchase of a minor.

Todd, Chavis, and Romero are being held in the Davidson county jail on $50,000 bail. The next court date is set for October 21.

My first thoughts after seeing the mom was Yuck, somebody hit that? Shes ugly but then I’m very certain whoever it was is suffering with severe substance issues.

Can you believe this story? Also, you can tell what kind of life this child would have had because practically living in a family undocumented leaves room for a whole lot of abuse. Nobody knew this child was a part of this family who bought her or traded for her. And ew look at them. Children have been sold in this country for years. Little white babies are literally on the market. It’s called adoption, but it’s not free. You have to pay to adopt kids. And that is outrageous. You can’t even get a dog from a kennel without a fee. And they claim that the dogs are in such distress, but they put you through hell to get one.

Most adoptions from Foster Care are free, but most people don’t want children from there. They look at them like they are rejects. The average adoption costs anywhere from $15,000 to $50,000 and can go higher. People are desperate for babies. The couple who traded their car for this child weren’t good people. They weren’t trying to help this baby, you can look at them and tell they were going to abuse this kid. That’s why they were taking her to the hospital from something they had done. Luckily fate intervened and something better for this child came to fruition. Hopefully this little girl is placed with a loving family.
