Daytona Beach News-Journal: Volusia child sex sting: 11 arrested in operation Deviant Desire.
Eleven men, each planning to have sex with 14- or 15-year-olds, were instead met by deputies and arrested as part of a five-day undercover child sex sting dubbed Operation Deviant Desire, according to the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office.
The youngest man arrested was 19 and the oldest was 55, and deputies confiscated condoms, a gun, a knife and sex toys, said Sheriff Mike Chitwood during a press conference on Tuesday.
A Sanford man got a traffic citation on his way to meet who he thought was the minor, Chitwood said.
“One guy, Michail Hackett, was in such a hurry to meet us that he got a speeding ticket on his way here,” Chitwood said. “Another guy (Kumar Speicher, 41, of Jacksonville) was sitting next to his pregnant wife engaged in sexual content text messages with a 14-year-old to arrange a rendezvous.”
Hackett was going 69 mph in a 35 mph zone in Sanford, according to a release from the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office.
They were each charged with at least one or more of the following charges; using a computer to seduce/solicit/lure a child, using a two-way communication deice to commit a felony and traveling to seduce/solicit/lure/entice a child.
“This operation was targeted for people online who want to go after 14-year-old kids,” Chitwood said.
Undercover officers posed as boys or girls and engaged the men in conversations online, Chitwood said.
