A manhunt is underway for a Louisiana man suspected of a Saturday morning killing spree that has left five people dead, including his two parents.

The Ascension Parish Sheriff’s office is searching for Dakota Theriot, 21, who police suspect of shooting and killing his parents, married couple Elizabeth and Keith Theriot, both 51, about 25 miles southwest of Baton Rouge.

Ascension Parish Sheriff Bobby Webre said that Keith Theriot told officers, who responded to an incident at their trailer at approximately 8:45 a.m. CST, that he and his wife had been shot by their son Dakota. The parents were then airlifted to a hospital in Baton Rouge where they later died.

“This is probably one of the worst domestic violence incidents I’ve seen in quite a while: for a young man to walk into a bedroom and kill his mother and his father and then kill friends in Livingston that he had a connection with,” Webre said a press conference on Saturday afternoon.

Dakota Theriot is also accused of a triple homicide in Livingston Parish, Louisiana, about 30 miles northeast of his parents’ trailer.

Webre said that the suspect had lived with his parents for a time, but recently they had asked him to move out and not return. The sheriff did not know any background information about the young man’s relationship with his parents.

The suspected gunman is now wanted on two counts of first-degree murder and one count each of illegal use of weapons and home invasion, the sheriff’s office said.

A warrant for Theriot is also forthcoming, Webre said, for the killing of Billy Ernest, 43, Tanner Ernest, 17, and Summer Ernest, 20, at their home in Livingston Parish. Webre said that he is believed to be driving a 2004 Dodge 4-door pickup truck that is gray and silver, which they think he stole from the Ernest family.

Authorities believe that Theriot is now driving east toward Mississippi, Webre said.

“There’s no reason for us to believe that there’s anybody else who is a target, other than I will say he is an armed and dangerous guy: so anybody he comes in contact with could be a target,” the sheriff said.

The Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office and Livingston Parish Sheriff’s Office are working together alongside the Louisiana State Police to locate Theriot.

“The good news is that we know who did this,” Webre said, “and we will soon find this person and put him in jail where he belongs.”

So is he going to kill himself? That’s a great possibility and he’ll serve no time for what he’s done.

The Latest on shooting that killed five people (all times local):

5:30 p.m.

A neighbor who lives near the house where three people were killed Saturday morning in Louisiana says two young children from the house ran to her home to ask for help after the shooting.

Charlenne Bordelon tells The Advocate newspaper that the children were at home at the time of the shooting that took place in Livingston Parish but were not injured. She says they are both under the age of 8.

Would he have killed these children if they hadn’t escaped?
Bordelon says Theriot was the older daughter’s boyfriend and that he’d recently moved in with the family but she did not know him.
A family member of several victims in separate shootings that left five people dead in Louisiana said she believes her niece had just started dating the shooting suspect, and that some family members didn’t get a good vibe from him.

Crystal DeYoung is Billy Ernest’s sister. She told The Associated Press that she believes Theriot had just started dating her niece, Summer Ernest.

DeYoung said Theriot doesn’t have a vehicle and she’s not sure how he ended up at the Ernest home on Saturday, but after the killings, he took off in her brother’s truck.

DeYoung said her brother, niece and nephew were good people who “trusted people too much.”

His Facebook profile seems normal to me. He didn’t seem angry in the last year or so. I read many of his posts and they were funny to me. Today though, there is so much hate. The comments are slaughtering this man.

You’d think he’d killed their relatives. They don’t even know him and hate him. The anger and hatred from the public is so vast I couldn’t stay on the page.

I Dont know guys. He killed 5 people and that’s unforgivable. But I just don’t know if he’s a bad guy or he snapped. Does he have mental health issues? Normally I’d be destroying this guy and asking for blood, but he killed his parents and people who cared about him. He’s already destroyed. He’ll never be the same if he comes out of this alive.

I wanted to show off one of his posts

And those are the comments. Look at the hatred and ignorance stemming from politics. He gave an OPINION and look at how he’s attacked. And don’t say it’s because of what he did. I see these attacks all the time. Insults by republicans are the worst. They are vile and hateful. Simply because someone speaks THEIR truth, you hate them and discriminate against them. Maybe that’s why he killed them all. Maybe they were hateful Trump supporters. There is so much bullying in politics. I’ve never experienced so much hate until I started discussing politics. The racism is real. That’s why I rarely talk about it. Smh
