Hillsboro, OR – A Hillsboro man was arrested Tuesday on suspicion of killing his 16-month-old son last fall, police say.

A Hillsboro police spokesman said Eric Alexander Valencia is suspected of killing his son, Colin James Valencia, in October 2017. There are no outstanding suspects in the case.

Washington County Jail records show Valencia, 22, is being held on suspicion of aggravated murder, murder, strangulation and other charges.

Court records allege he suffocated his son when the boy was about 1 month old and that he also bit the boy.

Valencia announced the death of his son on Facebook in late October 2017, changing his profile photo to a photo of himself, a woman and young child. He wrote that Colin had died the day before.

“These 2 are amazing people and i want them to know i love them deeply,” he wrote.

He also posted this spring that he visited the boy’s grave and placed a toy lamb there.

“For Easter I thought the little Lamb I placed is fitting because Colin is a little Lamb of God and one day we will be ressurcted (sic) and I will have the opportunity to once again embrace my son,” he wrote.

“I love him so much and I miss everything about him but for now he is in a better place then this Earth life maybe he was just too sweet to deal with the hardships that corallates (sic) with growing up here but either way he is a blessing and he is loved.”

Valencia is scheduled to be arraigned Wednesday. He’s being held without bail.
