A Volusia County deputy was arrested Saturday evening after a domestic incident with his 16-year-old son, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

Sgt. Robert Rahn, 50, was charged with one count of domestic battery by strangulation and one count of child abuse without great harm after the incident at his home in the DeLand area.

Authorities said Sgt. Rahn and his son got into an altercation around 6:10 p.m. Saturday. Rahn’s son told deputies a verbal argument escalated when his father pushed him down onto a couch, punched him in the face and put him a headlock. The teen said Rahn also put his hand over his mouth and nose until he lost consciousness.

Rahn was transported to the Volusia County Branch Jail without incident Saturday evening, and has been temporarily placed on paid administrative leave as a result of his arrest.

My first thoughts were,  what did the boy do.  I know kids and although abuse is wrong,  teenagers need a special person to be able to deal with them.  But to try and kill the kid is a little extreme don’t cha think?  And he’s on PAID LEAVE.  Imagine having a job where you’re on paid leave and the crimes you committed have absolutely nothing to do With the job. I guess that’s the same thing as taking a couple sick days while you were in jail?  I guess that overall you were entitled to them. This is why serial killers like to get good jobs with benefits. You never know when you’ll need to have that vacation time available to pay for that week you spent in jail for the headless body found in your apartment. Bills still gotta get paid.

Rahn is facing attempted murder right?  Because he should be facing ATTEMPTED MURDER CHARGES.

Another take on the story…

A stunning turn of events near DeLand, Florida; where a Deputy from the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office who normally is tasked with enforcing the law has now been arrested for violating it.

Volusia County Sheriff’s Deputies say that their dispatch received a call to the family home in DeLand with reports of a man ”beating his son within an inch of his life”, according to reports.

When authorities arrived they found 50-year-old Sergeant Robert Rahn of the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office and his sixteen year old son crying.

Rahn’s son claims that his father pushed him down onto a couch, punched him in the face repeatedly and then began choking him.

The son also claims his father cupped his hands over his nose and mouth to cut off oxygen, effectively causing him to become unconscious.

Deputies had no choice but to subdue and arrest one of their own, and Rahn was transported to the Volusia County Jail for one count of domestic battery by strangulation and one count of child abuse without great harm.

This son of a bitch really doesn’t deserve a badge and obviously they are protecting him because he’s one of theirs. This is attempted murder yet they are saying,  WITHOUT GREAT HARM?  How pathetic. This child passed out.
