Wausau, WI – A Wisconsin paramedic faces charges for sexually assaulting a female patient while en route to the hospital.

Clifford Heiser, 32, resigned from his duties Tuesday as a Wausau firefighter and paramedic after he was arrested for groping a 29-year-old woman, the Wausau Daily Herald reported.

Police said Heiser molested the woman’s genitals and sucked on her breast while she was being transported in a Wausau Fire Department ambulance.

The woman reported the allegations to police Sept. 13 and Heiser was placed on administrative leave.

His arrest came after authorities conducted a DNA test that tied Heiser to the crime. “The offender had his DNA on her and that was confirmed by the Wisconsin State Crime Lab,” Wausau Police Department Deputy Chief Ben Bliven told news station WSAW.

Heiser was arrested Monday on charges that include felony sexual assault and misconduct in public office.

He was released from Marathon County Jail on $25,000 bond after posting the first $2,500 in cash.

City officials declined Tuesday to discuss the reason for the initial ambulance call, the Wausau Daily Herald reported.

Heiser is scheduled to appear in court next on Oct. 4.
