Well it seems like he tried his hands at a new profession. But he’s not good at that either. Lol he’s BUSTED for smuggling cocaine. Say whhaaaaaat?
Todd you’ll NEVER work in this town again!!
California lawyer who was one of several defense attorneys in the Casey Anthony murder case, is now jailed on charges that two weeks ago, he conspired to fly at least 3,300 pounds of cocaine from Ecuador to Honduras for eventual distribution in the U.S., according to a federal complaint.
Macaluso, 54, who has a pilot’s license, was captured on a secretly-made recording in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, telling two co-defendants that the corporate jet he had just arrived in from Orlando had the cargo space and heft to carry the 3,300 pounds, the complaint said.
Macaluso and the other two were arrested by Haitian authorities on Nov. 14, the same day as that meeting, the complaint says.
I didn’t know that Haiti had authorities. …
They have since been flown to New York, where a U.S. magistrate in Brooklyn on Nov. 19 ordered them held without bail.
They’re accused of conspiring to possess and distribute cocaine.
Macaluso’s attorney, Murray Singer, was not immediately available for comment.
Macaluso, who lives near San Diego, was one of several defense attorneys who did a limited amount of work on the Casey Anthony case. He withdrew more than a year before her 2011 trial after he was accused by the California Bar Association of misappropriating $150,000.
Last year he pleaded guilty to wire fraud in San Diego federal court and was sentenced to five months in prison and ordered to pay a $100,000 fine plus $150,000 in restitution.
He is now disbarred in California, where he has not been allowed to practice law since 2010.
According to a federal arrest warrant filed two weeks ago in federal court in Brooklyn, Macaluso was to serve as pilot of a Falcon 10, a corporate jet owned by a Danbury, CT, company, that would fly from Haiti to Ecuador, where it would be loaded with 3,300 to 3,960 pounds of cocaine then fly to Honduras.
From there, the cocaine would be distributed to the U.S., the complaint said.
He and the other suspects expected to be paid $35,000 up front then $150,000 later, the complaint said.
Also named in the complaint are Carlos Almonte Vasquez and Humberto Osuna Contreras, described by a federal drug agent as a representative of investors who intended to buy part of the cocaine.
A jury in Orlando acquitted Anthony on July 5, 2011, of murdering her 2-year-old daughter, Cayley, in a case that drew international attention.
Although he was no longer one of her lawyers Macaluso spirited her out of the city on a single-engine turboprop after her release from the Orange County Jail.
