Fairbanks, Alaska, on Friday, according to a statement released by the Fairbanks Police Department.
Police responded to a call from hotel staff at the Hampton Inn regarding a “suspicious circumstance,” according to the statement. When they arrived, they found an adult male crying in the hallway before discovering four dead bodies. All were inflicted by gunshot wounds.
Those individuals have been identified as 54-year-old Linda Hutton, 22-year-old Emily McDonald, 22-year-old McKay Hutton and 8-week-old Teagan Hutton.
According to their Facebook pages, McDonald and McKay were married and parents and recently welcomed a child. The pair also shared several photos of themselves with a slightly older male child, but it is unclear how he is related to the couple.
In one post on what appeared to be their anniversary in 2015, McKay gushed about his wife.
“Baby I’m lucky to find you and Tj, the most important part of my life,” he wrote. “I can’t wait for many more years. I’ve never found I person ever in my life that I could be my complete self with and now I will never be complete without you two by my side, thank you for being in my life everyday through it all. I truly understand what true love is thanks to you, thank you we are the few of the lucky ones.”
In addition to multiple posts about McDonald and his family, McKay also shared a post on Facebook about defending the Second Amendment and a photo of himself in front of a “Don’t Tread on Me” flag.
Police are still investigating the scene and have not released a motive or identified the shooter. In the statement, police said there was no indication that drugs and alcohol played into the crime scene.
The man found crying in the hallway is working with police, and he is not considered a suspect. He has not been publicly identified.
They are calling this a Murder-Suicide. Something to ponder. What went wrong? The thought that he was so adamant about his gun rights could have played a factor in this scenario. I recall a similar story about a gun owner who always posted about FREEDOM and the right to bear arms. Well eventually this mother chased her children and gunned down her two lovely daughters in the streets while her husband watched in terror. She later turned the gun on herself. Christy Sheats to be exact was somewhat of a mental case. On the exterior she looked quite normal. But inside she held something else. In the end she killed her daughters to hurt their father. It was his birthday. The story is on my site…
The reason why I mention this particular story is because it reminded me of a case I had written about a short time ago. It always baffles me when I see someone so ANTI or PRO and the very thing that they are against or support kills them. It’s almost like a woman who is pro-choice dying during the abortion.
The Holiday’s always bring out the strangest feelings in people.
He killed his mother, then his wife and child. Then turned the gun on himself.
He killed his child. That little baby…
Can someone say MENTAL ILLNESS? I’ve been getting a little frustrated though about the whole mental illness cop out thing. And I don’t know maybe it’s because we have no other options and we don’t know what else to call it. And no sane person can ever imagine killing their own children and their own mothers. Unless your mother is like Norman Bates mother. But other than that I don’t see why they have to die. So yes we look for a reason, then we look for rationalization to try to understand why people do what they do.
Look at that. So in love at one point and the thin line appears. No one knows how it will all end. Was he mental? That plays a role in a lot of relationships? She seems rather supportive of him.
And I’m thinking that the older child in the photo may be a step child.
A friend of his speaks out
Hard to believe. That’s how James Davenport describes the news of childhood friend
“It’s hard to believe what they have discovered so far,” said Davenport. “I would just never in a million years see McKay doing that.”
“I met him in 6th grade, and we would do everything together ride four-wheelers, hunting, and going to the fair,” said Davenport.
McKay’s childhood friend describes him as fun and always a good person to be around.
“It was just a great time whenever we hangout.,” said Davenport.
Even though the two hadn’t seen each other in a while, James said he saw no signs that his friend would do something like this.
“His life was pretty much just getting started,” said Davenport.
Davenport said that McKay recently had a major injury that sent him to the hospital.
“(He had) health issues going on in the past couple months, and I’m not sure if that has been affecting him a whole lot,” said Davenport.
As sad as this story is I just can’t put my finger on why this keeps happening. Why are gun enthusiasts so quick to pull a gun in their time of emotional crisis? I thought the Idea behind buying a gun was to be able to protect your family from strangers. Not to actually turn your weapon on your loved ones.
Do any of you out there understand what I’m saying? As a woman it’s a little bit scary for us when our boyfriends or Partners or significant others have a gun. The reason being is because we don’t know what you’re going to be doing with that gun. I love guns and I don’t have a problem with anyone owning them. But it is a little bit frightening when a guy has a gun because you don’t know why he has it. Okay yes I’ll give the guy in this story the benefit of the doubt because well he lives in Alaska. And I’m certain that he went hunting and had this whole Outdoor Experience in the woods that a city girl like me would never understand. But I did not kill my family. And people are starting to brag and say what a loving devoted father this guy was or is but I don’t know how much of that I can agree with when he killed everyone who loved him most. He killed the baby. Guys, he shot a baby. I don’t know how loving and devoted that is. Because if that is love and devotion I definitely will be single for the rest of my life and I’m looking pretty much for an asshole in my next mate.
This lovely lady married the wrong man. And it’s not supposed to end like this guys.
